Now that 2020 has come to a close, it’s a great time to reflect on the adventures, achievements, and blessings of the past 12 months. Not only does this exercise help us recognize many accomplished goals as well as unplanned undertakings, it can help us realize our own perseverance and grow even more grateful for all that life’s thrown our way, too.
Each year differs from the one before it in some way, but it’s safe to say 2020 was unlike anything we’ve experienced in any of the past few decades. We’re likely to keep talking about this year for years to come—and not solely due to its challenges. Just as sharply as a worldwide pandemic threw a wrench in some of our plans, we saw opportunities emerge and innovatively seized as our most passionate groups and leaders stood up strong.
Let’s take a look back on some of the remarkable feats that transpired throughout the Spring Harbor community this year:
Despite the difficulties presented by COVID-19, Spring Harbor was able to maintain its five-star healthcare rating throughout 2020. Our residents know our healthcare staff goes above and beyond on a daily basis, but Medicare has officially recognized our community through a specific set of criteria including health inspections, staffing, and quality of resident care.
The past year certainly proved to involve a lot of time indoors, and we did our best to ensure that time was extra fun for our Spring Harbor residents! Our indoor pool and pool area were reconditioned and remodeled. Plus, we added an eight-seater Jacuzzi, meaning more aquatic excitement all around. Meanwhile back on dry land, we upgraded the sound system in our theatre and event center.
Upon entering our community, new Spring Harbor guests will now notice an attractive, terraced entryway with rock wall accents and scenic landscaping. Visitors, staff, and resident drivers will also note resealed and restriped asphalt parking areas all throughout the community—a project planned so meticulously that vendors could still access necessary areas through its duration.
Putt putt fans rejoice! Perhaps the most popular of our 2020 undertakings, Spring Harbor designed and installed a new miniature golf course adjacent to our Bistro Courtyard. Brand new shuffleboard courts installed outside both our Bistro Courtyard and card room this year will also undoubtedly become favorites for creating memories with friends and family.
A true innovation in any setting, but particularly in a socially distanced world, we developed a new interactive system for memory support patients this year. Called iN2L, meaning “It’s Never Too Late,” the touch screen tablet technology is programmed for activities, games, therapy, reminiscing, music, virtual travel, and more. Providing an opportunity for residents to connect with the world around them, the iN2L system also incorporates user-friendly messaging services that enrolled participants can use to text videos, pictures, or text messages directly to the iN2L tablet for residents to enjoy. Additionally, the simple video chat option allows up to eight family members on one virtual call to enjoy some laughs and face time together.
Newly established to offer interested prospects a taste of Spring Harbor before moving, the Harbor Club gives potential residents a little taste of our take on resort-style living. Harbor Club members gain early access to community amenities, receive exclusive invites to special events, and are first in line when desired floor plans and finishes become available.
All in all, Spring Harbor ended this unique year on a pretty strong note. Looking back at all the upgrades and ideas implemented, our community is well positioned for an exciting new year ahead. Another year of knowledge and experience makes it that much easier to refine our aims and ambitions moving forward. We wish you a happy, healthy 2021!
